2006 figures

here's some figure drawings from 2006. Thanks to Vivendi Universal for funding the sessions. Wish I had time to attend more often. But I'm glad they are there when I need 'em!

rabbits

I had a dream about rabbits a few nights ago. I'm going to do a piece about it. In the meantime, here's some quick rabbit studies.

(on a side note, I've been thinking about that movie "Watership Down" and how it used to scare the crap out of me when I was a little kid.)

The Melting Man - Melting Away

got my laptop back from the repair shop yesterday and finished up this piece. (I gotta get some better high res dirtiness for a printed version though.)

Dia De Los Muertos/holding hands with death

I actually started this one a few months ago and thought it was finished. But since my laptop is away and I have nothing to paint tonight I started playing around with this a little. I only have the low res version right now so I'll have to re-do this again on the high res version once my laptop gets back from the shop. So... I consider this kind of a test.

this is based on a wierd dream I had - "Holding Hands with Death."

Melting Man

I have a pretty full day, so I really have to find cracks in time to get any drawing done. I've been keeping 3x5 white index cards and a ballpoint pen in my pocket so that I can doodle whenever an oppurtunity arises. Although its not ideally how I want to work, its resulted in some bizzare wanderings of the subconcious. Here's the Melting Man.

here's a look at the proccess...

Well, I gotta send my laptop into the shop for a week or so to replace the sound card so this is it for now. I'll paint this one when it gets back.

river

my daughter River was sleeping when I sat down to draw this. I got about 30 seconds into it when she woke up! So... after feeding her and rocking her back to sleep I sat back down and looked at this one and decided to leave it as it was. Something about those first 30 seconds into a drawing that keep it really "honest."

eyekaps says...

eyekaps knows that a lot of his work can be a little "disturbing" scary, and creepy. eyekaps makes no apologies... just know that eyekaps also seeks out the beauty in in the world as well. One cannot know the "truth" of either without seeking out an understanding of both. eyekaps is curious about the world around him and the world within him (and within you). eyekaps makes no apologies.

here's some recent pages from eyekaps' sketchbook...

speak evil - dirty!

here's one I did a while ago. My original intention was to make a series of very clean flat colored cartoonish looking works when I started. Maybe its a lack of discipline, or maybe I've just opened up my mind to explore a little more than I originally intended. Anyway, here's the first version I did, and below is the "dirtied" up version. I might still tone down the dirty, I don't know I have to let it marinate on my mind for a while before I decide. Either way I'm envisioning the final output printed on semi-toothy newsprint (large!). I want it to look, feel, and smell like all those old marvel comic books I grew up reading in the early 1990's... before glossy, before dodge and burn, before lens flare! Let'cha know how that turns out.
